In general terms, the point of this whole trial is completely clear to me. This was a reaction of the state apparatus to a personal affront to Putin. I think that, fundamentally, all of this comes down to the fact that they prayed to the holy mother to get rid of Putin – this is the key element of the whole story. Had they prayed in the exact same way to rid the country, let’s say, of a member of the political opposition, let’s say, hypothetically, Boris Nemtsov, then, I think that not only would there not have been a criminal case, but on the contrary, they would have received all manner of praise from the authorities.
