LGBT rights 
A survey by the Levada Centre showed 85% of Russians oppose same-sex marriages; 87% oppose pride parades. (HRO.org, 13/3) 

On 14/3 Stephen Fry, making a documentary in St. Petersburg about homosexuality, interviewed Vitaly Milonov, author of the city’s ban on ‘gay propaganda.’ (The Moscow Times, 14/3)

Freedom of expression
On 15/3 Russia's federal media and telecoms watchdog said Twitter has agreed to block access to accounts or posts that have been blacklisted. (The Moscow Times, 18/3) 

On 15/3 the federal consumer protection agency said Google and YouTube are more concerned about freedom of information than protection against prohibited information. (RAPSI, 18/3)

Right of assembly
On 8/3 demonstrators were arrested in Moscow following an alleged attack on them by riot police. (HRO.org, 11/3) 

Magnitsky case
On 11/3 the posthumous trial of Sergei Magnitsky was postponed. Magnitsky's widow Natalya Zharikova called the trial “an insult to his memory." (BBC, HRO.org, 11/3) 

Pussy Riot  
On 14/3 the authorities at the penal colony in Mordovia where Pussy Riot member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova is held, said they oppose parole for the prisoner. (HRO.org, 14/3) 

Pre-trial detention / prisons
On 12/3, detainee Leonid Razvozzhaev left the pre-trial detention centre in Irkutsk; on 14/3 was said to be in Chelyabinsk; on 15/3 was reported en route to Moscow. (HRO.org, 12/3, 14/3, 15/3

An urgent application has been made to the European Court of Human Rights for the immediate release from custody of Margarita Charykova, who suffers from severe disabilities. (HRO.org, 12/3)

On 13/3 Human Rights Ombudsman Vladimir Lukin and the Ombudsman for the Rights of Entrepreneurs Boris Titov called for restrictions on the use of pre-trial detention. (HRO.org, 13/3) 

The Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights has called for the prosecution of officials at Penal Colony No. 6 in Chelyabinsk region that saw a protest by prisoners last November. (HRO.org, 12/3) 

North Caucasus 
On 12/3 security forces killed seven suspected Islamist militants in the republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, and arrested a further eight people, reports said. (The Moscow Times, 13/3)
