On 19/4 it was reported environmental activist Evgeniya Chirikova had fled to Estonia with family because of "repressions against social activists in Russia." (The Moscow Times, 19/4)

On 21/4 opposition activist Sergei Mokhnatkin, sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for assaulting police cut his wrists to protest his incarceration. (RFE/RL, 21/4)

LGBTI rights
On 23/4 a St Petersburg district court rejected a complaint from a gay teacher who was sacked for alleged “immoral” behaviour. (The Guardian, 23/4)

Freedom of expression
On 20/4 Moscow Regional Military Court convicted opposition journalist Boris Stomakhin on charges of terrorism and extremism, sentencing him to 7 years in prison. (RFE/RL, 20/4)

Espionage charges
On 22/4 nuclear physicist Vladimir Golubev was detained in Sarov, a nuclear research hub in Nizhny Novgorod region, on suspicion of divulging state secrets. (RFE/RL, 22/4)

Prison amnesty
On 24/4 the State Duma adopted a prison amnesty to mark the 70th anniversary of the victory in World War II. (RFE/RL, 24/4)

On 21/4 head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov said his forces should shoot to kill security officers from outside Chechnya in the region without their knowledge. (RFE/RL, 23/4)

On 24/4 the Chechen Interior Ministry said it has begun an investigation into "abuse of power" by police from Stavropol region that resulted in the death of Jambulat Dadaev whom they sought to detain in Grozny on 19/4. (RFE/RL, 24/4)

Ukraine, Moldova
On 21/4 a historian from Crimea, Oleksiy Chyrniy, was sentenced to 7 years in jail on terrorism charges. (RFE/RL, 23/4)

On 21/4 the European Court of Human Rights ordered Russia to pay damages for the fatal shooting of a Moldovan teenager, Vadim Pisari, in 2012 by a Russian soldier. (RFE/RL, 21/4)

On 22/4 a Simferopol court ordered the detention of TV ATR cameraman Eskender Nebiyev who is charged over a pre-annexation demonstration on 26/2/14 that he was covering in his professional capacity. (Human Rights in Ukraine, 23/4)
