Аleksandra Polivanova, Moscow: ‘What can I say? I am happy to work at Memorial and I am proud of each of these four statements...’

On the basis of the results of its inspection, the Ministry of Justice intends to enter International Memorial Society into the register of foreign agents.

The so-called inspection ‘found’ that Memorial, first of all, publicly criticized the Russian law on ‘foreign agents’.

Second, publicly criticized the decision of the Ministry of Justice to include the Sakharov Centre in the register of foreign agents.

Third, publicly described the actions of Russia in the east of Ukraine as military aggression.

And fourth, issued a public statement ‘The murder of Nemtsov: the responsibility of the authorities.’

What can I say? I am happy to work at Memorial and I am proud of each of these four statements.

And on the whole, if one looks into the ministry’s register of ‘foreign agents’, you can see good news there. Look at this list of 144 organizations and you’ll see that Russia does have a civil society: http://unro.minjust.ru/NKOForeignAgent.aspx
