Russian Journalist Shot In Attack He Links To Reporting
A journalist with the independent Russian online media outlet Kavkazsky Uzel (Caucasus Knot) says he is recovering after being shot in an attack he linked to his reporting. Vyacheslav Prudnikov said that a man opened fire at him on December 21 when he was visiting a cemetery in Krasny Sulin, a town in the Rostov region in southern Russia. Moscow Police Search Activists' Homes
Police in Moscow searched the homes of three activists of an opposition group called Protesting Moscow on December 22. Protesting Moscow said on social media that police were searching the homes of Olga Chezare, Roman Kogan, and Roman Rashimas. Russia Justifies Police Violence Before European Court
Russia is reportedly defending its police forces for allegedly beating an opposition activist four years ago in a case that has gone to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). Dmitry Monakhov, an activist with the opposition movement Solidarity, was beaten during an unauthorized rally in support of opposition leader Alexei Navalny in 2013. Staffers at Moscow Migrant Center Detained for Allegedly Helping Terrorists
Nine members of a migrant assistance center have been detained on suspicion of helping undocumented Central Asian terrorists obtain legal status in Russia, the FSB press service has announced. Last week, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) arrested several suspected members of an Islamic State (IS) sleeper cell on the cusp of carrying out a suicide attack in St. Petersburg.
