On October 31, 2010 at 3 pm in London, near the Russian Embassy in the UK, there will be a picket to support the freedom of assembly in Russia. The action will take place in solidarity with the movement “Strategy-31”.

“Strategy-31”, named after Article 31 of Russian Constitution says: Citizens of the Russian Federation have a right to assemble peacefully without weapons, to hold rallies, meetings and demonstrations, marches and pickets.

We have the Constitution, but in reality we do not have the rights and freedoms mentioned there.

We, Russians living abroad, cannot stand by passively and watch Russia gradually turning into a police state.

We are meeting in London as we are forbidden to hold meetings in Russia.

We hope to have the support of British citizens who care about the fate of Russia.

On this day similar rallies will be held in different cities and countries. In recent years, the Russian government has consistently denied the citizens of Russia their legitimate right to assemble freely and organize peaceful events. Every time people gather in the streets of Russian cities on the 31st day of the month, riot police violently beat them up, start administrative cases, some people have already been sentenced to very real prison terms just for coming to a rally.

We say NO to the police state!

We say YES to the rights and freedoms of citizens!

We CAN do it here, We CAN’T do it there!

If you live in London or nearby, come and support Russian people's right for freedom of assembly! If you cherish democratic values shake off your laziness and come to the Russian Embassy on October 31 at 3pm!

6 / 7 Kensington Palace Gardens, London, W8 4QP (meeting outside the Consulate in Bayswater Road)
