Person of the Week: Ivan Nepomnyashchikh

On Monday, 2 March 2015, Ivan Nepomnyashchikh, aged 24, became the 33rd and latest person to be charged in connection with the alleged 'riot' at Bolotnaya Square in Moscow on 6 May 2012, the day before Vladimir Putin's inauguration as president for a third term. Ivan Nepomnyashchikh has been charged with taking part in a mass riot and assaulting a police officer (allegedly with an umbrella). He faces up to 10 years behind bars. He denies the charges. Ivan Nepomnyashchikh was detained on 25 February 2015. According to the Investigative Committee, cited by The Moscow Times, 'On February 25, 2015, Nepomnyashchikh was identified by a witness as a person who used force against police officers on Bolotnaya Ploshchad. He has been detained as a suspect for the crime of assaulting a police officer." He has now been charged.
