"The organization [Women of the Don Union] is headed by Valentina Cherevatenko, who is an expert of our board and who works in our working group in Ukraine. We treat [the searches of Women of the Don Region by the Investigative Committee] as an attempt to frustrate the efforts of women's organizations of Russia, Ukraine, and the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DNR and LNR, respectively) on civil support of the Minsk process, an attempt to put into question the implementation of the Minsk agreements."

- Mikhail Fedotov, head of the Presidential Human Rights Council

On 24 June 2016 investigative authorities conducted a search of the offices of the NGO Women of the Don Union in Novocherkassk, Rostov region, as part of on-going legal proceedings against the head of the organization, Valentina Chervatenko, for alleged persistent violation of the 'foreign agent' law. As Human Rights Watch has reported, on 6 and 10 May 2016 the Investigative Committee summoned Valentina Cherevatenko for questioning as part of a preliminary inquiry into alleged evasion of obligations set out in the “foreign agents” law.
