Igor Kalyapin: 'In our country the struggle for human rights, the struggle for the rule of law, the struggle against torture, have been declared attempts to change government policy.'

"I believe that this decision is not so much a decision against the Committee Against Torture, as a decision against the policy of the government of the Russian Federation, and in the last analysis against the Russian Federation itself, against its public image, both within the country and, without doubt, on the international stage. In our country the struggle for human rights, the struggle for the rule of law, the struggle against torture, have been declared attempts to change government policy. I think this is both a condemnation and a medical diagnosis.”
