President raises salaries for ‘siloviki’

Presidential decrees to raise the salaries of heads of the military, security and law enforcement agencies make one think there has been a coup in the country 

30 September 2013 will go down in history. On this day President Putin signed decrees (Nos. 739–742) to raise the remuneration (salary plus various bonuses) for the so-called siloviki (the heads of military, security and law enforcement agencies) by a factors of from 2 to 2,5. These include the minister of defence, the head of the FSB (Federal Security Agency), the head of the FSO (Federal Guard Agency), the chair of the Investigative Committee, and so on. [Read more]
